Lighting Design engages the soul as well as the intellect.Does reducing our energy usage mean that we have to reduce the quality of our lives? A good question: there are calls from national governments to ban the ordinary light
bulb; If we’re not careful, the answer to the question I asked at the top of the page will be: almost certainly. But it doesn’t have to be like that. Climate change and the promise of energy shortages later in the century means that the world we’ve taken for granted is now demanding fresh thinking from us and we need to play our part in making the changes as positive as possible. We live busy, sophisticated lives and our homes and the places we visit deserve to be embraced with a positive aesthetic approach to design. Low energy lighting does not mean a sackcloth existence – unless that’s what you really want. Email John Bullock |
