In the news today: over 2000 employees rioted at a Foxconn factory that makes products for Apple. The company said: 'A personal dispute between several employees escalated into an incident involving some 2,000 workers at approximately 11pm last night in a privately-managed dormitory.' That's some 'personal dispute'.
The plant has been closed today, although the company also said: 'it does not appear to have been work-related'. No - of course not. Over 2000 people rioted because someone was snoring??
Corporate Social Responsibility commentaries bang on about the importance of knowing where you get your outsourced product from.And if you're waiting for a delivery from a company that's closed due to rioting among its employees, that suggests you may have a weak link in your supply chain.
I make no comment about Foxconn here - I don't know enough about the company, but the suggestion seems to be that poor Labour Practices have led to a break-down in their production process. And that can't be a good thing.
