Good architecture often provides the clue to how the lighting should work. Voysey designed this staircase with its very narrow balusters so all that’s needed is a wash of light to the stairs wall beyond, to create a dramatic light-dark patterning – here softened with front-lighting by the use of a traditional table lamp.
