Historically, we never had enough light, and that’s why we’re used to seeing chandeliers hanging in the centre of rooms – ensuring that what light there was would spread as far as possible. Modern technology – via lamp design – means that we can place the light where it needs to go. In this library, supported by a pair of chandeliers, the double-height shelving is lit using discreet continuous lines of fluorescent lighting, up- and downlighting from the access gantry walkway.
All lighting is provided by low energy sources.
